CHULA VISTA – It was Deja Vu all over again this year for Granite Hills as for the second consecutive year the Bonita Vista Barons pull out the opening round victory this time at home.

Last season at Granite Hills the Barons beat the Eagles 3-1 with two runs in the top of the seventh inning. This time around the Barons scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning and went from there.

The Eagles though looked to erase last year’s defeat as they struck first in the top of the first inning with a run.

With two outs after Baily Wallace (1-4, R) led off with a base hit she would score when Staci Chambers (1-3, RBI) singled to center field.

Chambers also took the circle for the start and she cruised through the first inning as she retired the Barons in order. Unfortunately, the Eagles were not so lucky in the bottom of he second inning as Bonita Vista tied the game at 1-1.

Leadoff hitter Julia Hill walked, she would later come around to score when Klarissa Munoz (RBI) hit into a fielder’s choice.

Despite giving back the run in the bottom of the second inning the Eagles answered right back in the top of the third inning.

Starting things off with a leadoff single by Rylee Omahen (1-3, R, 2 SB), she would steal second and advance to third on a passed ball, Brooke Bertussi (1-2, SB) would walk, she would steal second and in the process, Omahen stole home to give Granite Hills a 2-1 lead.

Appearing in good shape the Eagles had the momentum but the Barons once again took advantage of opportunities.

Lead hitter Nicole Hill reached on an error, Micaela Macario bunted for a single, Alexis Guevara reached on an error to load the bases.

Bonita Vista looked to do some real damage as they had no outs and the bases full. The very next batter Vinitzia Blanco tied the game on a groundball out.

The score was now tied at 2-2 and the Barons still had runners in scoring position when on the very next pitch Chambers uncorked a wild pitch allowing Hill to come into score making it 3-2.

Unfortunately, the Eagles just couldn’t put together the hits as they would put runners on in the next couple of innings. Down to their final at-bat in the top of the seventh inning, the Eagles went down in order as Guevara took very little time in the seventh to finish things off.

Chambers in the loss fort eh Eagles went 6 full innings in which she gave up 3 runs on 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 6 on the day.

For the Barons, Guevara picked up the complete 7 inning victory in which she gave up 2 runs on 5 hits while walking 3 and striking out 5 on the day.

The loss by the Eagles will now put them against the #7 Torrey Pines Falcons on Saturday and Bonita Vista will travel to the North County to take on the #2 Rancho Bernardo Broncos.
