Boys Hoops Rankings December 11, 2017

The last week or so gave us some key insight on teams that may have been overlooked, and a few who are struggling to hold their spot.

  1. Foothills Christian – The Knights were idle after finishing the BattleZone tournament. The Torrey Pines Holiday Classic has blessed San Diego hoops fans once again as Foothills will meet Mater Dei on December 26th. The Knights also face Westchester on December 27th. The Comets have just one loss, by one point, to state #1 Bishop Montgomery. Foothills will have to focus on the Grossmont Destined to be Stars Tournament first, which starts on December 15th against Canyon Crest. (Last week 1)

  1. Mission Bay – The Bucs finished out the BattleZone Tournament with close loss to Great Oak. Mission Bay will also play a showcase game at the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic on December 26t against La Jolla Country Day (Last week 2)

  1. Vista – The Panthers maintain the number three spot, but nothing more after a bounce back defeat of Mater Dei Catholic at the Wolfpack-Horsman Tournament. Some injuries could affect Vista if they linger, let’s hope everyone stats healthy. (Last week 3)

  1. Mater Dei Catholic – The Crusaders make a big jump up the board, but fall short of cracking the top three, after allowing Vista to exact its revenge for a 63-54 loss to the Crusaders on December 4th. Beon Riley, Trey Anderson and crew are poised for a big year. (Last week 6)

  1. Torrey Pines – The Falcons jump Saints by extinguishing most of the top teams in the Coastal League over a six-day period. Orange Glen, La Jolla Country Day and Santa Fe Christian all fell to Coach Olive’s crew. If you are a firm believer that Saint Augustine belongs above the Falcons, the teams will take care of things on the hardwood December 26th at the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic. (Last week 5)

  1. Saint Augustine – Saints hasn’t done anything wrong thus far to drop in the polls, we simply haven’t seen the toughest part of their schedule just yet. A Key victory over La Costa Canyon shows that the Saints are ready to roll. (Last week 4)

  1. San Marcos – It’s likely that San Marcos is far too low on this list, especially considering the season Kody Clouet is already having. One win against a top-10 or bubble team and the Knights are likely to catapult up the charts. (Last week 8)

  1. La Jolla Country Day – The Torreys are 4-1 with their loss coming to Torrey Pines. La Jolla Country Day will get a crack at Mission Bay at the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic and that will tell us a lot about the Torrey’s potential this season. A good run at the Grossmont Destined to be Stars Tournament and who knows, maybe we will get an early Coastal League preview between LJCD and FC. (Last week 9)

  1. Santa Fe Christian – The Eagles had Beach Bash losses to Compton and Corona Del Mar as well as a more local defeat to Torrey Pines. The Eagles have a Coastal League schedule full of La Jolla Country Day, Bishop’s and Foothills Christian (amongst others), as well as a shot at Vista on January 9th. We might get our best picture of the Eagles once Holiday Tournaments have ended. (Last week 10)

  1. Cathedral Catholic – We were ready to jump on board with the Dons after a narrow loss to Vista. We haven’t seen a win from Cathedral since, save for a 39-point trouncing of Mt. Carmel. The Dons schedule tough however, and the Father Barry Christmas Classic is never full of cupcakes. If the Dons can bounce back at the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic, they may be back on the right track headed into league play. (Last week 7)

Bubble: Christian, Montgomery, Francis Parker, La Costa Canyon
