MISSION BAY 7, SANTANA 2

A big third inning for the Mission Bay Buccaneers (4-1) led to the home victory on Friday afternoon.

Santana (2-1) would gain the momentum early when Madison Mendez drove in Ashley Madrigal (Triple) on a ground ball out to give them a 1-0 lead. The lead wouldn’t last as the Buccaneers with two outs scored the tying run on a base hit to center field.

With the score tied still at 1-1 in the bottom of the third, the Buccaneers started off with a bang as they led off with a double, the next batter singled which scored the runner from second to make it 2-1. Mission Bay in the inning would accrue multiple walks and hits to push the lead to 7-1.

Santana would answer back with a run in the top of the fourth inning with one down as Lakaila Aquinngnoc-David singled and Isabella Cyman followed with a single, a couple batters later with 2 outs Hailey Justice singled to score Cyman to make it 7-2.

The Sultans would try and put together something offensively in the top of the seventh inning as Gilliane Johnston and Brianna Jerig hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Mission Bay though was able to squash the threat as they retired the next three batters to end the ball game.

Taking the loss on the day for the Sultans was Madison Mendez who gave up 7 runs in 2 1/3 innings of work while giving up 6 hits and walking 4 and striking out 4.
