SAN PASQUAL 57, SANTANA 43

It was a rough go at first for the Santana Sultans as the San Pasqual Golden would use a 7-4 run to end the first quarter as they led 12-4.

Santana in the second quarter made some adjustments and were able to put together a strong quarter as they tied the game 12-12 after scoring the first eight points. The Golden Eagles finally scored their first basket in over five minutes to retake the lead 15-12. Both teams went back and forth the rest of the quarter and eventually San Pasqual would lead 23-18 at the break.

Junior Brianna Jerig scored 11 points for the Sultans and also had 3 steals as the Sultans were able to rally once again and tie the game at 23-23 early in the second half. Unfortunately the Golden Eagles full court press took over forcing the Sultans into many turnovers which the Eagles turned into points to lead 37-25.

Once again the Sultans used a little momentum to pull within 37-29 but the Golden Eagles nailed a three-pointer just before the buzzer to lead 40-29.

“Overall it was a great effort by the entire team and we did really well on the offensive boards. The last three games against the top competition we have shown huge growth in many areas which is due to the kids working hard and transferring what is learned in practice to the games.” Said head coach Jordan Franey.

Maddie Campbell for the Golden Eagles canned eight three-pointers on the night in which she finished with 36 points.

Also contributing for the Sultans Aaliyah Stone who recorded a double-double scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 boards, and Bella Terry punched in 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.

Another high for the Sultans was that they outscored the Golden Eagles in the fourth quarter 17-14.
