SAN DIEGO (9-6-19) – On Friday night it was a showcase for the newbies as multiple freshmen for San Diego made an impact in the game against the visiting El Capitan Vaqueros (0-3).

Right away the scene was set at historical Balboa Stadium in front of a good-sized crowd as Curtis Rogers hauled in a pass from Dajon Messack and scampered his way past the Vaqueros defense for 45-yards and the score only a couple of minutes into the game. They would go onto score three more times in a matter of six minutes.

El Capitan would actually take a 7-6 lead in the first quarter when Donny Green ran through the Cavers defense for 21-yards to the house.

San Diego (2-0) would grab back the momentum when Shai’Rohn Ramsey ran back an 80-yard kickoff return, and Amare Ary scored from 6-yards out to lead 21-7.

Last weeks star Kalen Lavallais would make his mark in the quarter when he hauled in a 22-yard score from Hauser to pull within 21-14. The momentum wouldn’t last as once again Ary would make an impact as he ran back an 80-yarder to extend the lead.

The Cavers would lead 27-14 after the first quarter.

Taylor Grasmick would punch in the only score of the second quarter when he ran it in from 8-yards out to pull within 27-21.

Once again though the Cavers came back to regain the momentum as Ary who scored three times on the ground would scamper in for a 54-yarder. Not to be outdone for the Cavers was Junior Moe Jackson who didn’t want to be left out as he scored from 55-yards out in the third quarter.

Trailing 39-21 heading into the fourth quarter the Vaqueros knew they had to get something going. They would manage one last score when Yokley picked off a pass and ran it all the way back to the house for 41-yards.

The ground game for the Cavers proved to be too much for the Vaqueros as Ary tallied 150 yards and three scores while Jackson led all rushers with 186 yards and a TD.

Another important detail about the victory for the Cavers was the fact this was a game that will be used when it comes to Division III Playoff seedings.
