Cherry Goes Down as Knights Fall to Eagles

By James McHugh

CORONA (11-29-17) – Foothills Christian is off to its first 0-2 start since the beginning of the 2010-2011 season. Perhaps more important to the Knights than their current record is the status of Senior wing TAESHON CHERRY’S ankle.

The USC bound senior did not return to the court after leaving midway through the second quarter of the Knight’s 87-71 loss to Rancho Christian at the BattleZone Tournament in Corona on Wednesday night. Cherry rolled his ankle in the first quarter but tried to continue before Head Coach BRAD LEAF shut him down for the night.

DERRICK CARTER-HOLLINGER continues to be a bright spot for Foothills Christian in the early going, notching another 26-points on the night. “Even though I still have room for improvement, I am happy with my individual progress so far” Carter-Hollinger said following another tough loss for the Knights.

A junior with budding interest from a number of schools including USD, Dartmouth, Howard, Air Force, Florida Gulf coast and others, Carter-Hollinger still sees team goals as his main focus. “Winning is still my top priority and I know that our team is good enough to compete at the highest level. I love my teammates, my brothers and we will continue to work on our chemistry and ultimately achieve our goals” Carter-Hollinger noted.

The Knights won’t get a break at the BattleZone. Foothills faces Chino Hills tomorrow night (November 30, 2017). While Chino Hills no longer has any Ball brothers on the roster, cousin Andre Ball and 2019 standout Onyeka Okongwu still provide plenty of offense for the Huskies. Foothills battles Chino Hills at 5:00pm before finishing up the BattleZone Tournament against Rancho Verde on Friday night (December 1, 2017).
