SPRING VALLEY (10-11-19) – Everyone figured the contest between the Steele Canyon Cougars and the El Capitan Vaqueros would be a complete blowout but early on both teams went back and forth.

It wouldn’t be until 2:11 remaining in the first quarter that the Steele Canyon Cougars would strike the first blow on an 11-yard Chris Carter run to take a 7-0 lead that the scoreboard would get its work in.

The Cougars would go onto extend their lead just before the end of the first quarter when Johnson again struck as he fielded a punt and zipped his way to the house for 51-yards and a score to make it 14-0.

Only leading by a couple of scores the Cougars would turn things up in the second quarter extending their lead 35-0 at the break.

Johnson once again would do the damage as he returned his second put of the night to the house this time for 57-yards with 8:24. Leading 21-0 the Cougars tacked on a second score when Wes Neely took the handoff and jetted through the defense for a 71-yard touchdown run.

Steele Canyon would also score on the defensive side of the ball thanks to Antoine Walker who picked off a Wick Hauser pass and returned it for 11-yards.

El Capitan would finally get on the board in the third quarter with just over six minutes remaining when Hauser found Antwone Yokley for a 5-yard score but the extra point failed to make it 35-6.

Kaien Lavallais would add the Vaqueros only other score of the night when he hauled in a pass from Hauser and raced in from 78-yards out to make it 35-13.

For the Vaqueros, Hauser threw for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns along with 2 interceptions.

Steele Canyon improves to 7-0, 2-0 while El Capitan falls to 0-7, 0-2.
