GROSSMONT VALLEY LEAGUE

STEELE CANYON 2, VALHALLA 1

In what ended as a pitchers duel the Steele Canyon Cougars rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and held on the rest of the way for the victory over the Valhalla Norsemen.

Despite the league crown already having been decided the day before there was still a matter of pride and also playoff positioning to be determined.

Both teams held each other until the top of the third inning when Ethan Dunham of the Norsemen hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Ryan Perot to make it 1-0.

An inning later the Cougars got a break when Richard Pedrin led off with a double and a couple of batters later Jake Entrekin took the Riley O’Sullivan offer and blasted it over the left field fence for a two-run home run which also scored Billy Tellous to take a 2-1 lead.

The one run lead would hold up the rest of the contest as Jonathan Kenney would come into the contest in the top of the seventh and finish things out to pick up the save.

O’Sullivan for Valhalla would take the loss as he gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in his 6 innings of work despite walking 1 and striking out 11 on the day.

Aidan Oakley picked up the win for the Cougars as he went 4 innings while giving up 1 run on 1 hit while walking 4 and striking out 4.

Kenney in picking up the save struck out 2 in his inning of work.

GROSSMONT HILLS LEAGUE

HELIX 3, SANTANA 1

Later in the top of the sixth with the score still tied Thompson again struck when he led off with a double, a couple of batters later he would come around to score when Martinez roped a single to center to make it 2-1.

Only leading by the one run the Highlanders knew they had to push across an insurance run and they did so when Thompson drove in Ayden Estrada on a sacrifice pop out to left field to make it 3-1.

Thompson who was given the start for the Highlanders made sure the Sultans didn’t answer in the bottom of the seventh as he fanned two out of three batters to end the game.

Starting for the Sultans was Ben Hart who went 4 innings in which he gave up 1 run on 4 hits and struck out 2, Riley Hamilton who came in relief took the loss as he gave up 1 run on 3 hits.

Thompson who also helped his own cause tossed a gem of a game as he went 7 innings in which he limited the Sultans to 2 hits and 1 run while walking 0 and fanning 12 on the day.
