COUGARS RUN ALL OVER WILDCATS TO VICTORY

The Cougars who were coming off the huge win over Helix the previous week continued their momentum as they ran all over the visiting Wildcats en route to the convincing victory.

On the night the Cougars behind both Wes Neely and Kenneth Watson whom both ran for over 100 yards respectively the team ran up and down the field for 497 yards total.

Neely who posted 141 yards and Watson with 140 yards did the most damage while quarterback Nathan Barnett ran for 94 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Steele Canyon (9-2) dominated up front as they returned four of five offensive linemen from last seasons state championship 3A squad.

It was the dominance that would wear down the visiting Wildcats from the start as Watson struck first as he scampered for a 43-yard score in the first quarter to make it 7-0. Barnett would find his way to the house in the second quarter to extend the lead 14-0.

The Cougars would eventually lead 21-9 at the intermission behind Watson and his two touchdowns.

Things in the second half went the home team was especially in the third quarter as Steele scored three touchdowns and the defense shut out the Wildcats 21-0 to extend the lead 42-9.

Junior Akintunde ran for a 12-yard score in the fourth quarter to make it 49-9.

Overall the Cougars racked up 528 total yards of offense in the victory and next week will travel to take on Saint Augustine with the game to be played at Mesa College.
