The Lancers were not intimated by the fact that they were opening the season against a defending State Champion in the Steele Canyon Cougars as they used a huge second half scoring fest of 27-points to procure the big win.

Despite the lopsided loss the Cougars were able to move the ball a bit in the first half as Nathan Barrett who took over the quarterbacking duties due to the graduation of Thomas Fishburne. In the first half he was able to amass 125 yards and a score on 16 carries but in the second half, the Lancer defense stymied him as he would garner negative yardage.

The Lancers would score first as Asa Turner started the momentum with a 48-yard punt return following the opening possession by the Cougars. The long return would lead to the first score with just under six minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Unfortunately the Cougars would fumble away the ensuing kickoff and the Lancers took full advantage as they would score on a 4-yard run to lead 14-0.

Steele Canyon would pull within 14-6 as Barnett would score on a 2-yard run.

One of the other bright spots for Steele Canyon was Wesley Neely who was able to find the end zone on a 97-yard kickoff return to pull within 21-13. Unfortunately, the Cougars were held out of the end zone the rest of the evening by the Lancers defense.

On the night the Cougars were able to garner 244 total yards on offense.
