LAKESIDE – The Cougars looked to rebound from their last-minute loss the previous week to Granite Hills while the Vaqueros were also coming off a loss to Helix.

One of the two would get their wish and that team would be the Cougars as they raced out to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter.

After receiving the opening kickoff the Cougars marched down the field to the Vaqueros 3-yard line where Kenneth Watson would take the handoff and punch his way into the end zone for the 7-0 lead. The Vaqueros had a shot to do something but unfortunately would be forced to punt away.

With the ball back the Cougars took advantage and again moved down the field where Wesley Neeley III who ran for 130 yards and 2 scores found the house for the score. Leading by a couple score the defense went back to business and were able to once again force the Vaqueros to punt away. This time quarterback Nathan Barnett who threw for 140 yards and a score called his own number and zipped his way through the defense all the way for the 59-yard score to make it 28-0.

After Antoine Walker picked off an El Capitan pass the offense struck again as Barnett ran for a 53-yard score. He would later find Valon Martinez for a 54-yard scoring strike.

El Capitan would finally get on the board when Wick Hauser who threw for three touchdowns and 224 yards found his favorite target Yaphet Yokley who caught 8 balls for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns for the 26-yard score to make it 42-7 to close out the first half.

The Vaqueros started out the second half strong and were able to move the ball and eventually score on a Hauser to Yokley pass for 44-yards to make it 42-14.

However, the momentum again swung the way of the Cougars as Neeley gashed his way through the defense for an 80-yard touchdown.

El Capitan would score again as Hauser was able to find Grasmick for a touchdown.

They would end their scoring night as Chris Carter would take the kickoff and return it 88-yards for the score to make it 55-21.
