D II: Jungers & Rodriguez Key Eagles To The Semis

SANTEE – The Southwest El Centro Eagles quickly jumped on the Patrick Henry Patriots on Tuesday afternoon as they pushed across five runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back.

The Eagles scored the first run of the game when Jaelyn Niebla walked with the bases loaded to bring home Arianna Izaguirre (2-2, R, 3 RBI, 2B) to make it 1-0, Madeline Jungers (3-3, 4R, 2 RBI, 2B) followed with a ripped double that scored both Sadriena Rodriguez (RUN) and Adriana Molina (1-4, R) to make it 3-0.

Southwest El Centro would tack on their final two runs of the inning on a hit by pitches which extended their lead to 5-0.

Rodriguez who got the starting nod was dominating the first couple of innings as she struck out three of the first six batters she faced.

Another run for the Eagles in the top of the third inning courtesy of a double by Izaguirre to bring home Jungers made it 6-0.

Patrick Henry finally got some offense in the bottom of the fourth inning starting with a lead single by Kaiah Altmeyer (1-4, 2R), a couple of batters later Lauren Nett advanced (1-4, R) Altmeyer to second on a single, they would both come into score on a roped double by Olivia Gigante (2-3, R, 2 RBI, 2B).

With the score now 6-2 in the top of the fifth inning, the Eagles tacked on another run to make it 7-2.

The Patriots trimmed the Eagles lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run blast by Jessica Dewitt (1-4, R, 2 RBI, HR) which plated Altmeyer and made the score 7-4.

They would cut the deficit even more in the bottom of the sixth inning when Malia Savage (1-3, RBI, 2B) knocked in Gigante with a double to right field which made it 7-5.

But the Eagles would answer back in the top of the seventh inning with a run courtesy of Jungers who scored when Alexandra Salcedo singled to make it 8-5.

Down to their final outs, the Patriots knew they had to put together something. Unfortunately, Rodriguez retired them in order 1-2-3 to end the game.

For the Patriots H. Jenks started and took the loss going 2.2 innings and giving up 6 runs on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2.

Laila Spracklen came in and tossed 4.1 innings of relief giving up 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2.

On the other side for the Eagles, Rodriguez struck out 13 in her complete-game victory as she allowed 5 runs on 7 hits and only walked 1 on the day.

With the loss, the Patrick Henry Patriots finish 17-8 and are officially eliminated from the playoffs while the Southwest El Centro Eagles improve to 20-12 and will advance to the Santee Sportsplex on Thursday afternoon in the bottom bracket as they will take on the #3 Mission Hills Grizzlies at 2 PM.
