DI Playoffs: Roope & Allmann Take Down Longhorns To Advance to Semis

LA MESA – Trailing early the Grossmont Foothillers took the lead after the first inning and thanks to strong pitching by Samaria Roope they book their ticket to the semi-finals.

The Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns got on the board first in the top of the first inning on a Farrah Steffany base hit that scored both Savannah Coyle and Kaylee Hull.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning didn’t deject the Grossmont Foothillers as Aly Allman (3-3, 2R, RBI, HR) led off the bottom of the inning with a bang.

She would take the Steffany offering and crush it over the left field fence for the solo home run and make it 2-1.

After consecutive one-out walks to Kati Contreras (RUN) and Jordan Brown (RUN, 2 RBI), a couple of batters later with two outs Jessica Medlin (2-3, 3 RBI, 2B) did more damage with a roped two-run double scoring both Contreras and Brown to give the Hillers the lead 3-2.

Now armed with a one-run lead Roope went to work in the circle. She pretty much retired the side in the next couple of innings and limit the Longhorns to very little.

Grossmont in the bottom of the fourth still clinging to the one-run lead put some insurance runs on the board when Brown hit a ball that was misplayed allowing both Natalie Emery (1-3, R) and Allmann to score to make it 5-2.

They would later in the bottom of the sixth inning tack on a final run thanks to Medlin who laced a hit that scored Kimmy Bond (1-4, R) to make it 6-2.

In the top of the seventh inning, Roope did the rest as she retired the side all on ground ball outs to end the game and the victory.

Steffany took the loss for the Longhorns as she gave up 5 runs on 5 hits in her 3.1 innings of work in which she walked 6 and struck out 3.

For the Hillers, Roope went all 7 innings for the complete game victory in which she gave up 2 runs on 6 hits while walking 1 and fanning 6 on the day.

With the loss, the Longhorns are officially eliminated from the playoffs and finish the season at 18-9-1.

Grossmont, on the other hand, improves to 21-12 and will advance to semi-finals to take on University City at the Poway Sportsplex on Thursday afternoon at 12 PM if weather permits.
