With the score tied at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cathedral Catholic Dons would take a 7-6 lead and never look back to hold on for the victory on Thursday afternoon on Del Mar Heights road.

Patrick Henry who came into the contest ranked in the top 5 in the County got on the board first as Kaiah Altmeyer led off with a triple, she scored on a passed ball to make it 1-0.

The early didn’t last as the Dons would push across a couple of runs in the bottom off the second inning. With one out they would tie the game on a solo homer by Sara Rusconi over the center field fence, later on, they would take a 2-1 lead when Marisa Estrada knocked in Jenna Mello.

The one run lead by the Dons didn’t last as Lauren Nett would blast a 2-run bomb over the left field fence that brought home Altmeyer to make it 3-2.

Moving along to the top of the fifth inning with a one-run lead the Patriots looked to add more and did when Olivia Gigante hit a 2-run homer over the left field fence to extend the lead 5-2.

Cathedral would inch closer in the bottom of the fifth inning as Van Wey laced a single to bring home Abby Tanuma to make it 5-3.

Patrick Henry added another run in the top of the sixth inning when Laila Spracklen singled home Hailey “H” Jenks to make it 6-3.

Looking like they would finish off the Dons the Patriots would see bad luck occur in the bottom of the sixth inning Anna Herrmann led off reaching on an error, Mello is hit by a pitch, Patane would reach on the fielders choice to load the bases.

With one out and the bases packed the Dons pushed across a run on a Patriot miscue, they would eventually tie the game at 6-6 on a couple of errors by Patrick Henry. Moments later Amanda Hicks roped a double which brought home Sophia Manos to regain the lead 7-6, Van Wey knocked in Tanuma on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-6 and a couple of batters later Sydney Anderson stole home to round out the scoring.

After a lead walk by Edie Guthrie, she advanced to second base on a ground out by Gigante and would come around to score when Dezianna Patmon laced a single.

Unfortunately, the Patriots couldn’t string together any more offense as the next two batters would be retired to end the ball game.

The Loss snaps the Patriots six-game winning streak while the Dos have now won three games in a row and take sole possession of first place in the meantime by a game.
