EL CAPITAN AND HELIX SET FOR FRIDAY SHOWDOWN WITH WINS ON WEDNESDAY

EL CAPITAN 12, MONTE VISTA 2 (5 INNINGS)

LAKESIDE – On Senior day the El Capitan Vaqueros (19-6 Overall, 7-0 GVL) stayed on point to set up the big showdown on Friday against the Helix Highlanders for the League Crown.

Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning the Vaqueros added another run when Madison Rosalis doubled in Ali Gay and Hannah Davis drove in Kiki Angeles to make it 3-0.

Monte Vista (14-10 Overall, 3-4 GVL) in the top of the third inning took advantage of three walks and an error to push across a couple of runs to pull within 3-2.

That would be the closest they would get as El Capitan broke open for six runs in the bottom of the inning.

With the bases full Gay would draw a walk to score Alexa Williams, an error scored Brandy Taylor and a double by Rosalis scored both Brook Horn and Gay to make it 7-2.

Angeles finished out the inning scoring on a wild pitch to make it 8-2.

A couple of innings later the Vaqueros finished out their scoring with a double by Bailey Olaveson bringing home Rosalis, both Hailey Mulligan and Olaveson would come into score when Williams lined a ball to right field that was misplayed.

Taking the loss for Monte Vista was Dessire Corona who went 4 innings in which she gave up 12 runs on 8 hits while walking 10 and striking out 1.

Kylie Mead picked up the win for the Vaqueros as she only allowed 2 runs on 1 hit while walking 5 and striking out 1 on the day.

Rosalis drove in 3 runs as she hit 2 doubles.

 

 

HELIX 11, EL CAJON VALLEY 0

It was quite a day for the Helix Highlanders (17-10 Overall, 6-1 GVL) as Casey Castro accomplished quite a feat with her gem of a game.

Castro against the El Cajon Valley Braves tossed a complete 5 inning perfect game.

Helix would score all the runs needed in the top of the first inning starting with a solo homerun by Camryn Jonilonis.

An RBI single by Castro, a walk by Amber Young made it 3-0, Avery Perez with two outs would drive in both Joleen Giles and Castro to make it 5-0.

Later after taking a 6-0 lead, Young would score on a wild pitch and Jonilonis struck again as she drove in both Perez and Melissa Gutierrez to take a 8-0 lead. Helix would score three more runs in the inning to round out the scoring.

Castro in her gem of a pitching performance in which she would only need 50 pitches would finish with 12 strikeouts.
