FALCONS CREATE TRI-CHAMPS AND CHAOS ON FINAL DAY OF SEASON

In a game that had playoff implications and also league title implications the Scripps Ranch Falcons (16-11 Overall, 5-3 CWL) jumped out early only to see Patrick Henry (16-6 Overall, 5-3 CWL) make a furious comeback that came up short on Thursday afternoon.

Scripps Ranch would strike first in the top of the first inning with a couple of runs courtesy of an error and a ground out.

Trailing 2-0 the Patriots had a golden opportunity to answer back in the bottom of the inning as Kaiah Altmeyer singled, Jessica Dewitt walked, Lauren Nett advanced Altmeyer to third on a sacrifice fly. With runners on the corners, Edie Guthrie came up but she would strike out for the second out of the inning, Dezianna Patmon followed with a walk to load the bases but none would advance as Laila Spracklen grounded into a fielder’s choice for the third out.

The Falcons would add a couple more runs in the top of the second inning again courtesy of an error and a steal of home by Kailani Williams to make it 4-0.

Later in the bottom of the third inning, the Patriots were able to push across a run when Dewitt took the offering and crushed it over the left field fence for a solo home run to make it 4-1.

Scripps Ranch answered with another run in the top of the fourth inning after three consecutive one-out walks and a sacrifice fly to center field.

Moving to the bottom of the fifth inning the Patriots again put together some momentum starting with Maya Dickerson leading off with a single, Altmeyer grounded to short in which Dickerson would be thrown out at second base.

With one out and Altmeyer at first base, Dewitt hit a ball that was misplayed and both her and Altmeyer were safe, Lauren Nett came up and roped a ball for a triple that scored both Dewitt and Altmeyer to make it 5-3. A couple of batters later the Patriots would pull within 5-4 when Dezianna Patmon smashed a double.

After neither team did anything the Patriots were down to their final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning.

With one out Nett singled to right field, Edie Guthrie singled to center but the ball was misplayed allowing Nett to advance to third base. Moments later she was picked off at third base for the second out.

Down to their final out and needing runners, Patmon drew a walk, Olivia Gigante who came into pinch hit was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Unfortunately, Chloe Wilson would pop out to short for the final out of the game.

Starting the game for the Patriots and taking the loss was Laila Spracklen who gave up 2 runs in her inning of work in which she walked 1. H. Jenks pitched the rest of the contest for the Patriots in which she gave up 3 runs on 2 hits while walking 5 and striking out 1.

For the Falcons picking up the win was Ashley Tong who went 3 innings in which she gave up 1 run on 2 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2, Sophia Ippolito came in relief and tossed 2 innings in which she gave up 3 runs on 4 hits.

With the win, the Falcons forced a three-way tie for first place in the City Western League between them the Patriots and the Cathedral Catholic Dons.

Also, both teams will now wait and see where they will be seeded for their respective Divisions on Saturday for CIF Playoffs.
