The big stage is where the stars shine and legends are made. On Friday on one of the biggest stages a running back made his mark and created quite a legend. Junior running back Jahmon McClendon for Monte Vista played the Division IV CIF CHampionship game against the San Diego Cavers sick and slightly dehydrated. Despite playing with these symptoms he smashed his way through the Cavers defense for 383 yards on the ground and 8 TDs which came on runs of 3, 42, 44, 32, 49, 23, 10 and 48 yards respectively.

His performance on the night was one of epic proportion as his 383 yards on the ground was 2 yards short of the record in a CIF Championship game and the 8 rushing touchdowns tied the All-Time CIF record for most touchdowns in a game which had been set a couple weeks prior by Dorian Richardson of Rancho Buena Vista against Santana in a first round playoff contest. The 8 rushing touchdowns however are a new CIF Championship game record.

McClendon did a lot of his damage in the first half as he ran for 203 yards and 4 scores but he would sit out for short time in the third quarter as it looked like he had injured himself on a dive into thee end zone just before the half. It was learned later he was just tired and dehydrated as he had not eaten all day due to being nervous for the big game. But his performance didn’t look like he was nervous as he rumbled his way through the Cavers defense to help the Monarchs to the 71-48 victory. With the victory the Monarchs claimed their third CIF Crown with the others coming in 1995 and 2003.

McClendon’s performance in the Division IV Championship game is in the legendary category and will be one that is talked about for years to come especially if you are a Monte Vista Monarch.
