EAST COUNTY FOOTBALL

La Mesa – The Buena Park Coyotes early on went toe to toe with the Grossmont Foothillers and were able to grab the early 7-0 lead.

Grossmont unfortunately couldn’t take advantage of an intercepted pass and would actually be shut out in the first quarter and head into the second quarter trailing.

However that would change as Grossmont sophomore quarterback Jamie Odom found his rhythm as he completed quick passes. Due to the up tempo offense the Coyotes were not prepared as the Hillers began to alternate between Odom’s passing and the running game of Shevell Sterling which in both cases wore down Buena Park.

The benefactor of Buena Park being worn down was Grossmont receiver Josh Moala who caught three touchdown passes from Odom and used his lighting speed to get past Buena Park defenders into the end zone each time uncontested.

Not to be outdone by the offense, the Foothillers defense got in on the action as well as they would pick off a pass at the one yard line to stymie a touchdown for the Coyotes. Buena Park couldn’t do anything and had to settle for a measly field goal.

As a team you want to try and score from just about every facet of the game and that is exactly what Grossmont did when in the third quarter Andrew Lira fielded a punt and was able to break away from defenders and made some shake and bake moves all the way to the house for the 68 yard return.

The defense again would again get in on the action as they were able to put points on the board courtesy of a 60 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. After the recovery, for Grossmont on the offensive side, Odom was able to once again find Moala for his fourth score of the evening.

Grossmont kicker Amber Huff was kept busy with all the scores as she kicked eight extra points in the game.

SCORE: Grossmont 56, Buena Park 17

RECORDS: Grossmont (3-2), Buena Park (1-3)

NOTES: Grossmont Hillers receiver Josh Moala hauled in 4 TDs including 3 in the first half while Amber Huff kicked 8 extra points.
