GROSSMONT 49, EL CAPITAN 21

Grossmont and El Capitan both have struggled this season as they entered with a combined 5-13 record. Both on the night were looking for a strong ending to the regular season heading into the playoffs.

The Vaqueros were looking for the upset victory over Grossmont to be able to have a possible home game in the Division III Playoffs. The Foothillers already entrenched themselves into the final 12th spot in Division I.

El Capitan started off with the ball but the Grossmont defense started out strong as they stuffed the Vaqueros offense to force them to punt away. Grossmont took advantage as they quickly scored on 4 plays capped by a Jaime Odom 21 yard connection to Desmond Carter to make it 7-0. After stopping the Vaqueros the Hillers gained the ball back and again took advantage. This time Odom would connect with Desmond Carter who ran his way past multiple defenders for the score and make it 14-0.

After a long drive by the Vaqueros that lasted 12 plays in which they had to give the ball away back to Grossmont. However, the Vaqueros stopped Grossmont but on the ensuing drive Connor Sanchez picked off Wick Hauser and 7 plays later Odom found Zak Farris for the 11-yard score to make it 21-0.

With things, all in favor of Grossmont the Vaqueros Austin Barker fielded the kickoff and ran all the way to the house for the 87-yard score to make it 21-7. After a forced fumble and with the momentum the Vaqueros looked like they were back in business but Alex Golojuch would rip the ball from Hauser and scoop it up and rumble to the house for the 54-yard score to put Grossmont up 28-7.

They would tack on another score before the half when Odom hooked up with Thomas Magnum for 24-yards to extend the lead 35-7 at intermission.

Demari Crawford would score in the second half for Grossmont to give them a 42-7 lead early on in the third quarter. For the Vaqueros after going back and forth with backups would score again as Baker repeated with another kickoff return for a touchdown to make it 42-14.

After that Grossmont, backup running back Jarrod Lacy and Vaqueros backup quarterback Nathan Schunk would trade touchdowns and the game would end with the score 49-21.

Grossmont finishes with a 3-7 record and will have the 12 seed and likely play on the road at Madison next Friday in Division I. On the other side the Vaqueros likely will have to travel for their game in Division III next week.
