GROSSMONT 14, POINT LOMA 0

A combined pitching effort and also the bats allow the Grossmont Foothillers to come away with the convincing victory on Monday afternoon in La Mesa.

Grossmont scored the games first run when Aly Allmann (2-4, 3R, RBI, 2B) who led the inning off with a double stole home to make it 1-0, moments later Jordan Brown (2-3, 2R, 2 RBI, 2B) singled home Natalie Emery (2R) and Brianne Blue (2-2, R, 3 RBI, HR) followed with an RBI single to score Kati Contreras (2-3, 2R, 2 RBI, HR).

Leading 3-0 the Foothillers added more when Kimmy Bond roped a double to bring home Brown and Jamie Medlin (1-2, 2R, RBI, 2B) knocked in Bond with another double to make it 5-0.

More of the same for the Foothillers in the bottom of the second inning with two outs as Contreras jacked a shot over the center field fence for the solo-homer that made it 6-0, Brown doubled in Halle Sweiss followed by another home run to center field, this time by Blue. Her shot to center field brought home Brown which gave Grossmont a 9-0 lead.

Grossmont would go onto score five more runs over the next couple of innings to round out their scoring.

Picking up the victory for the Foothillers was Samaria Roope who went 2 innings only giving up 2 hits while striking out 6, Emery finished the game off going 3 innings of relief in which she gave up 4 hits and struck out 1 on the day.

HELIX 2, MAR VISTA 1

With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Kori Jonilonis for Helix laced a single that brought home Alyssa Cruz for the game-winning RBI.

Both teams needed this game as it was a crucial game for Division III playoff implications as Mar Vista was #3 in the rankings coming into the contest while Helix was #7.

The Mariners were able to strike first as they took advantage of a couple of errors by the Highlanders that allowed Lenika Padilla (single) to score and give them an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

Moving to the bottom of the fourth inning Helix got something going as Erin Brown led off with a single, she would advance over to third base and eventually come into score when Zoey Kuhlken lined one to center field and Brown tagged and tied it at 1-1.

Pitching on both sides picked it up thus setting the stage for the bottom of the seventh inning for the Highlanders and their dramatic finish.

For the Mariners, Bryanna Schaffer took the loss going 6 innings despite only giving up 2 runs on 5 hits while walking 3 and striking out 3.

In the circle for the Highlanders was freshman Sophia Ramuno who went 7 innings and only gave up the 1 run on 3 hits while walking 0 and striking out 4 on the day.
