Both teams had opportunities early on and the Foothillers were able to strike first as they scored in the 25th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Neither team could do anything offensively the rest of the half so it would be the one-goal lead at the break for Grossmont.

With the momentum heading into the second half, the Foothillers tried to keep it going but Santana was finally able to get a break on a bounce when Nathan Huges found Sam Odenkirk who found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 and give Santana the momentum.

But the momentum swung back to Grossmont a couple of minutes later as they had the ball in Sultans territory and would score on a goal by Zack Huff who was able to place it perfectly so it bounced over the Sultans goalkeeper to give Grossmont a 2-1 lead.

With the momentum shifted the Sultans went on the attack and had quite a few opportunities to tie the game but they couldn’t take advantage as the Foothillers goalkeeper made a few spectacular saves.

Still only leading 2-1 the Foothillers caught a break when Angel Reyes was fouled in the penalty box in the 12th minute. Grossmont was awarded a penalty kick and Francisco Nava was able to extend the lead 3-1 as he banged the penalty shot into the back of the net and basically put the game out of reach.

Grossmont with the win is now 1-8-2 and 1-0 in league while the Sultans fall to 11-5-2 and 0-1 in league.

The Foothillers will be back in action on Friday night at Helix for a 6:30 matchup while the Sultans will be at home for a 6:30 PM matchup against the Granite Hills Eagles.
