GURROLA’S 6 3-POINTERS HELP THE MATADORS REMAIN UNBEATEN

POWAY – The Mount Miguel Matadors continued their winning ways on the road in a hard fought 54-44 victory over Poway in a non-conference game.

The Matadors were able to in the first half use their speed and defense to outscore the home team Titans 24-9. Mount Miguel led 10-5 after the first period and 14-4 after the second period.

The second half was a different story as the Titans made some adjustments and were able to outscore the Matadors 17-16 in the third period but the Matadors still had a more than double-digit lead of 40-16 after three periods. Poway in the fourth quarter again was able to outscore Mount Miguel 18-14 but it wasn’t enough.

Paving the way for the Matadors was the duo of Citalli Gurrola who drilled in 20 points which included enfuego from behind the arc nailing 6-3 pointers and Sylena Peterson who scored 16 points including a couple three pointers. Other contributors were Tiaja Bennett with 8 points and 5 rebounds and Camara Douglas with 7 points as well as grabbing 7 rebounds and blocking 3 shots.

With the win the Matadors remain unbeaten on the season  and will definitely keep their high ranking.  Mount Miguel will take on Scripps Ranch at home tomorrow night at 7pm.
