GROSSMONT HILLS LEAGUE

SANTANA 7, #7 GROSSMONT 1

The Santana Sultans behind four different players driving in runs in the fourth inning really took it to the Grossmont Foothillers as they snapped their five-game losing streak in La Mesa on Wednesday afternoon.

It wasn’t that long ago the Santana Sultans got off to a great start in league and were fighting for first place. Unfortunately, some bad luck hit them and all of sudden they saw themselves toward the bottom of the league.

They would break out of their funk in a big way as they took advantage of opportunities in the top of the fourth inning to score the big inning.

It started off with Brandon Glowacki who laced a single to left field, he would move to second on a base hit by Tyler Fitzgerald (3-4, R, RBI), after a sacrifice by Sean Iverson advanced both Glowacki (1-3) and Fitzgerald to second and third Blake Taylor (RUN) walked to load the bases. With only one out the Sultans looked to dome serious damage and indeed they did thanks to Ben Hart (2-3, R, 4 RBI, 2B, HR) who helped his own cause when he took the first offering from Jaden Wilcox and hammered it over the right-field fence for a grand slam.

Leading 4-0 the Sultans were not done as Davin Burroughs (1-4, R) followed with a single, Cole Contreras (1-3, R) singled, Aidan Donovan (1-4, R, RBI) drove in Burroughs with a base hit which made it 5-0, a couple of batters later with 2 outs Glowacki came up for the second time in the inning and singled to score Contreras and Fitzgerald singled in Donovan to round out the scoring.

Grossmont would finally breakthrough in the bottom of the sixth inning when Zakary Farris took the Hart offering and jacked it over the right field fence for the solo home run and make it 7-1.

Hart for the Sultans would be lifted in the seventh inning for Ryan Jaggard who came in and despite hitting a couple of batters would finish the game by striking out Farris.

For Grossmont, Wilcox took the loss in which he only lasted 3.2 innings in which he gave up 7 runs on 9 hits and struck out 4, Farris who came in relief went 3.1 innings in which he only gave up 2 hits while striking out 2. ‘

For Santana, Hart tossed a 6 inning gem in which he only gave up the 1 run on 8 hits while fanning 6 on the day to get the victory, Jaggard tossed an inning of relief in which he struck out 1.

GRANITE HILLS 4, HELIX 3 (10 INNINGS)

In another exciting contest between the Helix Highlanders and the Granite Hills Eagles the game would be tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the tenth inning and one out when Brian Smith on a 1-1 count roped a double to center field scoring Max Bodtke for the game-winning run.

Helix early on would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning starting with a Jack Sothres double that scored Adam Martinez and Noah Lane scored on the very next play.

The Eagles would later answer in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a balk by Jordan Thompson which allowed TK Parker to score and Grant Mac Arthur singled to bring home Bodtke to tie the game at 2-2.

The Highlanders regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning on a base hit by Carlos Oquita to give them a 3-2 lead.

TK Parker of Granite Hills would tie the game at 3-3 when he lined a base hit to center in the bottom of the fifth inning to score Ryan Fenn.

For Helix, Oquita went 2-4 with an RBI, Sothres went 2-5 with an RBI and a double.
