La Mesa – The Helix Highlanders traveled less than 10 miles to their neighbor and rival Grossmont to take on the Foothillers in the annual “Battle For The Musket” trophy game. From the get go you knew it was going to be one of those nights as the Highlanders pounced first.

On the very second play of the game Helix quarterback Carson Baker threw a ball to Isaiah Wooden who hauled it in and scampered his way to the house for the score to make it 7-0. They added more when Elelyon Noa added his claim to the scoring with a touchdown run. After that it was the defenses turn as they were able to force a fourth down and Grossmont had to punt deep in their territory.

The snap by the Foothiller center went over the punters head into the end zone where it was recovered by Isaac Taylor-Stuart to extend the lead to 21-0. By the end of first quarter after another touchdown strike from Baker to Terrance Tolbert for 15 yards and another Noa scamper the score was 35-0 Helix.

Another defensive score for the Highlanders in the second quarter as they didn’t let up. This time Michael Shawcroft was able to break through and sack Grossmont for a safety. By the time it was all said and done the Highlanders led 50-3 at the break as Rashaad Scott dazzled his way to a 60 yard kickoff return and Noa this time caught a 15 yard pass.

Backup quarterback Delshawn Taylor even got into the scoring act for the Highlanders as he ran for 72 yards and a score.

Passing wise Baker on the night for the Highlanders threw for 170 yards on 11 of 14 passing while Noa rumbled his way for 190 yards on 18 carries.

The only scoring for the Foothillers was a 35-yard field goal by Amber Huff.

With the victory the Highlanders keep their firm grasp on the Musket Trophy for the twenty-first victory in a row and also a claim to their third consecutive Grossmont Hills League Championship which they can win outright with a victory next week over Valhalla.
