LA MESA – Quite the dramatics as the Helix Highlanders in the bottom of the seventh inning with the score tied at 1-1 scored the winning run when Carlos Oquita walked.

Scripps Ranch took an early lead in the top of the second when Steven Lancia led off with a solo home run to make it 1-0.

The one run lead for the Falcons looked like it would stand as Will Van Duren was sitting down the Highlanders one by one and on the other side, Jordon Thompson was matching Van Duren batter for batter.

Moving to the bottom of the sixth inning with the Falcons still clinging to the 1-0 lead the Highlanders finally got some momentum when Alonzo Richardson bunted for a lead single, Eric Smelko followed with another bunt base hit, Richardson would advance to third base on an error.

With runners on first and third and one out for the Highlanders up stepped Oquita who was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases, Adam Martines followed with single that scored Richardson to tie the game at 1-1.

Helix was in really good shape as they still had less than one out but the Falcons were able to get out of the inning without further damage.

The Highlanders behind Thomas Caneday held the Falcons in the top of the seventh inning.

Back-to-back one-out base hits by Ayden Estrada and Richardson whose hit center advanced Estrada to third base, a couple of batters later with 2 outs Thompson drew a walk to load the bases.

Now with the bases loaded up stepped Oquita who on a full count drew a walk to plate Estrada for the game-winning run.

Van Duren took the loss for the Falcons going 6.2 innings giving up 2 runs on 8 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4.

Caneday picked up the win in relief for the Highlanders giving up 0 runs in 1/3 inning of work, starter Thompson went 6.2 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits while walking 5 and fanning 10 on the day.

With the loss, the Falcons are eliminated while the Highlanders advance to play the LCC Mavericks on Saturday at 11 AM at home.




LA MESA – With the score tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning the Grossmont Foothillers won in dramatic fashion when Brodie Romero drew a walk to score the game-winning run.

Early on a pitcher’s duel ensued as both teams held but in the bottom of the third inning the Grossmont Foothillers finally broke through.

With two outs, Romero stepped to the plate and singled to score Kaleb Tedoken to give them a 1-0 lead.

The one run lead would hold up for Grossmont starter Jaden Wilcox until the top of the sixth inning when Saints tied the score.

A one-out walk to Charlie Rhee, Angelo Peraza was hit by a pitch and K. Fisher Pyatt knocked in Rhee with a base hit to right field to tie the game at 1-1.

Grossmont would retake the lead in the bottom of the inning courtesy of a solo home run by Danny Yanez over the left field fence.

Now leading 2-1 the Foothillers were in excellent shape but Saints wouldn’t go down and actually tied the game in the top of the seventh inning on a Xavier Franco double.

With the game again tied at 2-2, Grossmont started off the bottom of the seventh inning on the right foot as Anthony Mata and Brandon Smith were hit by pitches, a couple of batters later Zak Farris is hit by a pitch to load the bases.

The very next batter Romero drew a four-pitch walk that allowed Brody Schicker to come in for the game-winning run.

Jack Hyde who came in for relief for the Hillers picked up the victory going 1 inning giving up 1 run on 1 hit while walking 1.

With the win, the Foothillers advance to play on Tuesday at 3:30 PM at home.



EL CAJON – After tying the game at 1-1 the Granite Hills Eagles took charge as they scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning the Eagles started off right as Clay Fordham led off with a base hit, Max Bodtke followed with another hit, and Austin Smith drove in Fordham with a hit to right field to make it 2-1, Dillon Goins knocked in Bodtke to make it 3-1.

A couple of batters later with one out and runners on TK Parker roped a double that brought home Smith to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead.

Granite Hills would hole their three-run lead until the bottom of the sixth inning when they extended it with three more runs.

The big damage of the inning came courtesy of Goins who ripped a ball for a two-run triple scoring both Art Lopez and Smith to make it 6-1. Goins would round out the scoring as he raced home on a wild pitch.

Despite giving up a leadoff single in the top of the seventh inning Fordham promptly retired the next three batters to end the game and procure the victory.

Joe Cetale of the Torreys took the loss as he only lasted 2 innings in which he gave up 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2.

Fordham picked up the complete game victory in which he gave up 1 run on 6 hits while walking 1 and striking out 8.

Granite Hills will now take on Saint Augustine in an elimination game on Saturday at 11 AM.
