What a difference a week makes and that was a fact Friday night as the fourth-ranked Helix Highlanders rolled Arroyo Grande.

Leading the charge for the Highlanders was quarterback Delshawn Traylor who not only used his arm but also his feet enroute to four touchdowns. On the night, Helix amassed 190 rushing yards and 189 yards through the air led by Daniel Aemon.

Without Elelyon Noa who was sitting out the Highlanders knew they had to pull things out and indeed they did as Traylor scored on the opening drive from 2-yards. He would also score again after Aemon was able to hit Chris Rivera for the long ball all the way down to the five yard line.

It wasn’t just the offense who was clicking but also the defense as they limited Arroyo Grande to only 194 yards of total offense which included 54 yards in the air in which only 3 passes were completed. The defense put constant pressure the whole night on Arroyo Grande as they were able to procure three sacks including one by Gabe Martinez and also Jeffrey Hill who forced a fumble.

The scoreboard read 20-3 in favor of Helix at the break. One of the biggest special teams play was when Michael Shawcroft was able to put his hands up and block a field goal. Helix would also block a 52-yard attempt by Arroyo Grande.

In the second half, Traylor would score a couple more times from 10 and 2 yards out.

A couple weaknesses for the Highlanders can be said about the game in that when it came to third down conversions they didn’t have much luck and also the fact that they committed many penalties. However, those things can be fixed and you definitely know they will be by next week when they take on Saguaro out of Arizona and the defending 4A State Champion and currently ranked 22nd in the Honor Bowl next Saturday.
