La Mesa (8-25-17) –  If a high school football team was compared to a rock band the Helix highlanders would be considered the Rolling Stones of San Diego due to all the talent they have at every position.

The No. 1 ranked team in San Diego took care of business Friday in their home opener against the Herriman Mustangs out of Utah 35-0.

For Helix it was the secondary that just completely decimated the Mustangs.

It was the night of nights for SDSU-bound Rashad Scott as he picked off four Herriman passes including three in the first half and was able to turn one of those picks into a 35-yard pick six to put the Highlanders up 14-0 in the first quarter. The other score for Helix in the first quarter was a Carson Baker 21-yard touchdown strike to Terrance Tolbert for the first score of the contest.

Scott also caught a 1-yard score from Baker who finished 15 of 20 for 231 yards and three scores.

On the night it was Rashad Scott show as he became the 11th player in SDCIF history with 4 picks in a game. The record for most in a contest is 5 by Guillermo Guerra of Holtville. As far as the East County is concerned the last time it was accomplished was back in 1983 by Ted Gilmore of Valhalla and Derek Baldwin of Granite Hills.
