LA MESA – In a big night on homecoming the Highlanders (4-3, 2-0) were able to run at will against Norsemen and control things from the getgo.

A few minutes into the first quarter Highlanders quarterback Daniel Amon connected with Kamryn Brown for a 59-yard touchdown strike to make it 7-0 early on. Helix would, later on, extend their lead 21-0 as Elelyon Noa zipped his way down the field past the defense for 58-yards.

The Highlanders in the second quarter repeated the first quarter as Aemon found Brown again for 53-yards to push the lead 35-0.

Valhalla (0-7, 0-2) was just looking to get something going and thought they found some momentum when Kiare Worthy returned the kickoff 60-yards. The offense was able to drive down to the third-yard line. Unfortunately, the drive would be killed when Luke Pillsbury was picked off by Xavier Hamlett who returned the INT 70-yards for a pick-6 to make it 42-0.

Another Valhalla INT leads to a pick-6 by John Carroll who returns it 26-yards to extend the lead 49-0.

The Norsemen didn’t quit and were finally able to avoid the shutout when Elijahwan Philips found the end zone on a 15-yarder to make it 49-6.

One of the big highlights on the night for the Highlanders came when Freshman Chris Washington took the kickoff and darted his way all the way to the house for the 93-yard score.

Next week the Highlanders host the Grossmont Foothillers in the annual “Battle of The Musket” while the Valhalla Norsemen will host the Steele Canyon Cougars in the “Battle for the Jamacha Helmet.”
