2017 PREP FOOTBALL

GROSSMONT 37, OLYMPIAN 21

It was all Foothillers as they were able to bounce back to even their record at 1-1 with their victory.

The big thing for Grossmont was the fact that it was sophomore Jamie Odom who was under center the entire night unlike the first week when he platooned. He took advantage of the opportunity afforded him.

Odom also had help on the offense as his running back Shevell Sterling Jr. opened up the scoring with a short score to make it 7-0. Olympian was able to tie things up but it didn’t last long as Odom nailed Desmond Carter with a 31-yard razzle dazzle strike to make it 14-7.

Odom again involved himself with a score as he ran a short one in to push the lead 21-7. They extended their lead 24-7 on a boom FG by Amber Huff.

Olympian creeped back into the ballgame with a couple of scored but Sterling in the third quarter brushed through Olympian defenders as he caught the Odom short pass and hauled all the way to the house for the 52-yard score.

Grossmont put the contest away when Thomas Magnum was able to slip past the Olympian defense in which Odom found him and scampered for a 77-yard score.

“Odom came through when needed as he came through with a long touchdown.” Said Foothillers coach Tom Karlo.

On the night the Hillers enjoyed a fantastic rushing performance from Sterling as he had over 100 yards on the ground.
