EL CAJON – In a contest that many thought would be somewhat of a shootout ended up not being one as the defenses took over. In the first half the defense for the Patriots was able to keep the Hornets out of the end zone and was able to actually scoop up a pair of fumbles.

The NO. 9 Hornets or the Hive as many people call them finally broke through in the first half as Da’Jon Thomas squirmed his way for 27 yards on a run to end zone to make it 7-0. They added more in the second quarter as quarterback Asante Hartzog made a connection to Kevin Banks who worked his way down the sideline just short of the house. A couple plays later it would be all everything Kenyon Sims who punched it in for the 14-0 lead. On the night he rushed for a couple of scores.

Only for the second time all season the high powered offense of the Patriots was being stymied as Lincoln actually led 20-0 after three quarters.

Christian finally broke through in the fourth quarter when Brad Jeremiah found Bryce Riepl for the 38-yard strike to make it 20-7.

The defense of the Hive was all over the place all night long and limited the Patriots high powered offense to only 162 yards passing. For the Hornets, Hartzog passed for 251 yards on 20-27 passing.

The Hornets with the victory claim sole possession of first place in the Eastern League and pretty much control their destiny and also partially make up for last year when Christian defeated them twice.

SCORE: Lincoln 20, Christian 7

RECORDS: Lincoln (7-1, 3-0), Christian (6-2, 2-1)

QUOTABLES: “We lost two times to these guys last season, once in the regular season by 8 points and they took us out in the playoffs by a point, so it was big to get the victory.” said Kevin Banks.
