It has been quite the season for the Jaguars of Southwestern College. Not only did the softball program finish in the top 2 of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, which will afford them a home play-in playoff game on Tuesday they also had a couple of their players receive extra awards.

First of those players to receive an extra award is Sophomore Trudie Nixon the former Coronado Islander who made Jaguar program history as she tossed the programs first ever no-hitter against Santa Ana back in February. Overall on the season, she finished with a record of 24-10 with an ERA of 1.82 along with 101 strikeouts in 204.1 innings of work. She also tossed 22 complete games in her 39 appearances on the season.

Besides her work in the circle for the Jaguars, Nixon at the plate hit .322 as she collected 39 hits and knocked in 20 runs on the season. It is these efforts that she was named as a member of the 2019 ALL-STATE TEAM.

The second player from Southwestern College to receive an extra award was one who really helped out the team this year as she was moved from the outfield to third base. Cassie Van Til a sophomore and former Patrick Henry Patriot led the Jaguars in hitting on the season with a .442 average in which she collected a team-leading 53 hits. She also led the team in Runs Batted In with 45 and also doubles with 12.

For her all-around efforts on the season, Cassie Van Til has been named to the 2019 ALL SO-CAL team.

Nixon as previously written about also earned Most Valuable Pitcher of the Pacific Coast Conference and also Van Til was named to the First Team All-Pacific Coast Conference.

Both players were two of the big reasons the Southwestern College Jaguars have a play-in game at home against Ventura College at 4 PM. The winner will then go onto play on the road at Cypress College.
