San Diego – The Patriots came into their Eastern League opener smarting from a 30-7 loss to Santa Fe Christian last week and were looking to get back on the right track against the home team Buccaneers.

For the Patriots it didn’t take long to get on the board and to erase the bad taste from last week as Brad Jeremiah found Bryce Riepl for 43 yards to make it 7-0. He would also find and make Alexander Gonzalez his favorite target on the evening as he hauled in 4 touchdowns.

The defense for the Patriots got in on the act as David Ventura tallied 5 tackles and also sacked Mission Bay quarterbacks twice on the night.

But the show for the Patriots was Brad Jeremiah who on the night provided the offensive fireworks as he threw for 359 yards on 20 of 26 passing and 8 touchdown strikes.

Mission Bay after struggling the entire night finally figured things out and got on the board in the third quarter as the special teams scored but it was too little too late as the mighty Patriots proved too much overall for the undermanned and outmatched Buccaneers.

The Patriots now have scored 284 points on the season while Buccaneers have given up 245 points so far on the season.

SCORE: Christian 68, Mission Bay 12

RECORDS: Christian (5-1, 1-0), Mission Bay (0-6, 0-1)

NOTABLES: The Patriots Brad Jeremiah with his 8 touchdowns moved into a tie for third place in the CIF SAN DIEGO SECTION Record Book. He is tied with Scott Schneider of Francis Parker in football who accomplished the feat back in 1991 in 8-man football. Also tied is Jason Santos of St. Augustine who did it back in 2003 against Scripps Ranch. With his 8 touchdown passes in a game he also sets an East County All-Time Record. He broke the record set by Lon Sheriff of West Hills who accomplished the feat in Coach Sutton’s air attack offense back in 1996 against Valhalla. The other person who was tied with Sheriff was Abraham Muheize who accomplished the feat against Castle Park and went on to set all kinds of records for CIF and win the Silver Pigskin Award back in 2005. Jeremiah also has 38 TDs on the season which puts him in 6th place and there are still four regular season games to go. Tops on the list is 46 back in 2014 by Colin Rugg of Lajolla and the East County season record is 44 set by DJ Busch back in 1999 when he led the Santana Sultans to an undefeated regular season. The other leaders on the list are Lance Webb who tossed 43 in 2000 while at Midway Baptist and 41 by both Abraham Muheize of El Cajon Valley in 2005 and Anthony Lawrence of Grossmont in 2013 and finally 40 by David Ortega of Palo Verde back in 2006.
