CORONA (11-30-17) – Once again injuries plagued Foothills Christian’s newest member as senior TEASHON CHERRY missed much of the action Thursday night (November 30, 2017) against Chino Hills with a cut above his eye which trainers onsite struggled to stop from bleeding.

The Knights had a stroke of luck early on in the second quarter of their 92-74 loss as Onyeka Okongwu picked up his third foul on the night for the Huskies. Okongwu is one of the region’s most intriguing prospects in the 2019 class and the centerpiece of Chino’s offense with the summer departure of LaMelo Ball.

Celebration was short-lived for Foothills however, as budding star DERRICK CARTER-HOLLINGER also picked up a third foul before the opening half drew to a close. The Knights trailed by as much 22-points when they fell behind 49-27 at the half. Cherry returned for the second half which provided some spark for the Knight’s offense. A JAREN NAFARRETE jumper cut the Huskies lead to 12 at 72-60 early in the third quarter before Chino Hills went on an eight to two run.

Okongwu would finish the night with 37-points to lead all scorers. Foothills Christian once again neared the 75-point mark, generally a high scoring average for most high school teams. The Knights have run into a slew of high powered offensive teams throughout their trip to the BattleZone Tournament however, leading to an 0-3 start for the San Diego section’s pre-season favorite.

Carter-Hollinger added 25-points to his season total and still sees a positive road ahead for the Knights. “I am proud of the way we battled tonight. Before Taeshon got a cut above his eye it was a tight game, but during those minutes without Taeshon, Chino Hills used their size advantage to take a big lead” the junior wing said after the loss. “Unfortunately we were not able to recover from that huge gap but we actually outscored them for a good stretch which shows an improvement in our chemistry. I see great things happening in the future as we get to learn how to play together and develop on the defensive end” Carter-Hollinger quipped before calling it a night.

Foothills Christian finishes up the BattleZone Tournament with one last test in Rancho Verde on Friday night (December 1, 2017) at Rancho Verde. Rancho Verde held Chino Hills to an astonishing 20-points total in the first half of their matchup with the Huskies on Wednesday night (November 29, 2017) before Chino rolled to victory in the second half.
