PATRICK HENRY 14, LA JOLLA 3

In what would be a huge day for Mateo Medina (4-5, 3R, 7 RBI, 2 2B, HR) of Patrick Henry (12-5-1 Overall, 4-1 City League) the Patriots pounded out 15 hits in their convincing victory over the home team La Jolla Vikings (10-8 Overall, 3-4 City League) on Tuesday afternoon.

Medina in the first inning added the Patriots second run in the top of the first when he doubled in Ryan Preciado (3-4, 3R, 3 RBI, 2B), the first run came in when Preciado drove in Dante Juliano (1-2, 2R, 2B) who led off with a double.

La Jolla would pull within 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a single by Gavin Graff scoring Cooper McNally.

Patrick Henry didn’t fret after giving up the run as they answered right back. With one out Juliano walked, Tomas Gagliano (2-4, 2R, 2B) doubled putting runners at second and third, Preciado drove in both Juliano and Gagliano and once again Medina did some damage as he doubled in Preciado to give the Patriots a 5-1 lead. They would a couple more runs in the inning courtesy of Andrew McAlpin (1-4, RBI) and Ryan Miller (2-3, R).

La Jolla scored another run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-2.

The offense of the Patriots continued to click as they scored three more runs to extend their lead to 10-2 in the top of the sixth inning.

For the Patriots, Medina would drive in Gagliano with a single, he would steal second and come into score on a base hit by Jonathan Marshall to make it 9-2 and the final run of the inning came on a triple by Max Shabestari (1-3, R, RBI, 3B).

Leading 10-3 in the top of the seventh inning Medina who was already having a big day added to it as he hammered a ball over the center field fence for a grand slam home run. The dinger by Medina was his first of the season and sharing in the blast was Ken Peak (RUN), Cory James (RUN) and Preciado who all came into score.

Max Jones would finish off the Vikings in the bottom of the seventh inning as he picked up the victory.

On the day, Jones went 6 1/3 innings in which he gave up 3 runs on 4 hits while fanning 8 on the day.

As far as Medina and his day which saw him knock in 7 runs on the day well that falls just short of entering the CIF SAN DIEGO SECTION RECORD BOOK for baseball. The lowest total in the book is 8 RBIs.
