MONTE VISTA 44, MAR VISTA 0

The Monarchs coming off a CIF Division IV Championship but losing in the State Playoffs after leading big looked to start the new season right.

Indeed they did as they completely overwhelmed Mar Vista thanks to the running by all-everything Jahmon McClendon who found the house on a 10-yard scamper. It wasn’t just the offense for Monte Vista that got in on the scoring act as the defense put up some points thanks to a double pouncing by Blake Schmidt and Isiah Gardner in the end zone for the safety. Gardner’s pick six went for 44 yards.

The defense for the Monarchs harassed the Mariners offense the entire night including interceptions by both Gardner and Darren Barkins for pick sixes. Monte Vista added another score when McClendon would pound his way for his second touchdown of the game in the first quarter in which the Monarchs led 30-0. He would finish his evening with 72 yards on 4 carries and the 2 touchdowns before being replaced. On the night the Monarchs would score four rushing touchdowns.

Coach Hamamoto for the Monarchs with the huge lead decided to pull out most of the starters to give his reserves some playing time. However, the scoring didn’t stop because of this as Terrel Kyle would bust his way through the Mariners defense for a 68-yard score. Monte Vista would add another score to make it 44-0 in which they never looked back.
