Rancho San Diego – In a defensive battle between two teams coming off of losses it was the Otay Ranch Mustangs who would pull out the gritty victory.

Both team’s offenses couldn’t gain any sort of momentum as it all but killed by all the penalties and dropped passes by both teams. That all changed as the Mustangs finally put together some offense and sustained a long drive on their way to a 3 yard touchdown run by Gus Espiritu to make it 7-0.

Valhalla had a great opportunity to tie things up as Kaire Worthy would return the kickoff 60 yards but the defense of the Mustangs thwarted the opportunity. That wasn’t all the bad luck for the Norsemen as Dennis Dahlin would leave the contest after being hit by Otay Ranch. In came his replacement Bryan Madriz who unfortunately didn’t have any luck as once again penalties killed the Norsemen.

Otay Ranch in the third quarter was able to extend their lead as Darian Williams would haul in a 33 yard pass from Puka Stewart for the score to go up 14-0. The Norsemen finally got on the board as Madriz was able to connect with Michael Bazzi who worked his down the field all the way to the one yard line. They would score on a short run to cut the deficit 14-7.

However the Mustangs were able to put the game away in the fourth quarter when Stewart threw his final touchdown strike.

SCORE: Otay Ranch 21, Valhalla 7

RECORDS: Otay Ranch (3-3), Valhalla (2-3)
