LA MESA (30 August 2019) – Locals came out in force Friday night as the Helix Highlanders took on the out of town, Herriman Mustangs. Prospects came from far and wide to witness what some would call a monumental night for Helix senior Elelyon Noa, who in his third carry of the night would break the Helix High School Rushing Record previously held by none other than Reggie Bush. This was soon followed by Noa running into another incredible accomplishment; passing up 5000 total yards, becoming one in only nine players in San Diego County history to do so. Accomplishments were not only held by Noa during this first quarter as senior receiver, Kionte Scott, received the game kick off nearly in the end zone and ran it back for a 91-yard touchdown! Within the first five minutes of play, the Highlanders were up 7-0.

KAMRYN BROWN THROWS DOWN FIELD

The Mustangs pushed and ran their way through the herd of Helix defenders. On their fourth drive, the Mustangs senior quarterback threw the ball for a complete pass to receiver Alex Anderson who carried it to the two-yard line before Highlander, Delshawn Traylor, tackled him. Mustangs rushed the end zone and pick up their first touchdown with 3:49 left in the first quarter.

Both teams would go on to pick up another touch down during the second and third quarters, and in the fourth quarter had fans on the edges of their seats. At 19-16 Helix, Herriman punts from inside the 10-yard line to tie the game at the buzzer. After deliberation of refs and coaches, it was decided that the teams would play on into college overtime. Herriman received first and within minutes ran into another touchdown when senior running back, Kepu Fifita, sped into the end zone with a 17-yard carry. Highlanders played full steam ahead, almost tying the game in their last down, but were stopped by a Mustang interception. The Mustangs won 26-19 in what was a nail-biting come back.

NOA IN THE ENDZONE

On the night Elelyon Noa ran for 185 yards on 22 carries and scored once.

The Highlanders will face the Cathedral Catholic Dons on Friday, September 13th at home in what’s anticipated to be an intense match up and a continuation of their great rivalry over the last few years.
