VALHALLA 5, MONTGOMERY 4 (8 innings)

In what was a dramatic way to start the day the home team Norsemen were able to come from behind and win on a walk-off hit by Joseph Ingrassia which scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Valhalla was able to take an early lead on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Perot to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. They would later score a second run on a single by Austin Scribner that scored Riley O’Sullivan to make it 2-0.

The Aztecs would finally break through as they were able to push across a run in the top of the fifth to cut the Valhalla lead 2-1 but the Norsemen would get the run back on a O’Sullivan pop fly to make it 3-1.

Moving along to the top of the sixth with Valhalla still leading the Aztecs were able to put together some offense and push across two runs to tie the game at 3-3. They would take their first lead of the contest in the top of the seventh on a single to make it 4-3.

Trailing for the first time by a run the Norsemen after an Aztec lineup change took back momentum as Kyle Casper drilled a long ball home run over the right field fence to tie the game at 4-4.

Starting the game for the Norsemen on the mound was O’Sullivan but he would get the no-decision as he went 4 innings giving up 2 hits and no runs while striking out 5. Besides getting the game-winning hit Ingrassia would also garner the victory as he tossed 1 inning of relief in which he struck out 3 Aztecs.



The Norsemen despite trailing would put together runs in the middle innings as well as the late innings to come away with the come from behind victory over the Mustangs.

Valhalla in the second contest of the day would be the visiting team and they would score first on a passed ball to take an early 1-0 lead.

Unfortunately, the lead wouldn’t last as the Mustangs pushed across three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead thanks to a home run.

A couple of innings later in the top of the third, the Norsemen capitalized on some opportunities with two outs as Ryan Perot knocked in a run and Riley O’Sullivan doubled in Perot to tie the game at 3-3.

Valhalla would retake the lead in the top of the fourth inning on another passed ball. The one run lead for the Norsemen would be extended in the top of the fifth as they pushed across a couple more to lead 6-3.

Otay Ranch pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 6-4. That would be the closest the Mustangs would get as Valhalla would score four more runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead 10-4.

Andy Boyd came in to relieve Joseph Ingrassia in the sixth inning and shut down the Mustangs the last two innings to close out the victory.

With the sweep, the Norsemen go to 2-0 and will take on San Ysidro on Monday at home in the Aztec-Foothiller Classic at 3 PM.
