CHRISTIAN 33, SANTA FE CHRISTIAN 10

The last time these two teams met last season in El Cajon the Eagles of Santa Fe Christian were holding the high powered offense of the Christian Patriots to only seven points in the 30-7 victory.

This time around the Patriots returned the favor as they held the Eagles in check. They would get the scoring started in the first quarter after recovering an Eagles fumble which would lead to a 7-0 lead as Alexander Gonzalez would find the house on a 13-yard run in which they would lead after the first quarter.

Once again the Patriots defense would come up with the big turnover as they again recovered another Santa Fe Christian fumble. The second turnover would lead to another Christian score as Javier Jimenez would run it in from 3 yards out to extend the lead 14-0. Santa Fe would finally put together some offense as they were able to drive down the field but would stall and were forced to kick a field goal. They would finally get points on the board as Jack Bosman would nail a 26-yard field goal after a 15 play drive just before the half.

Things got interesting to start the second half as the Patriots looked like they would be held on the opening drive but Alexander Gonzalez would scoot his way for 31-yards on a fake punt to keep the drive alive, eventually setting up a 29-yard scoring catch by Gonzalez from Owen Easley.

Despite trailing the Eagles plugged a long and again were able to move the ball downfield and gain a little momentum as Kian Hogan would find the end zone on a 3-yard run after a 17-play drive. However, that momentum was swung back in the Patriots favor as Gonzalez fielded the kickoff and zipped his way all the way to the house for 98-yards for the score.

The long kickoff return brought the Patriots fans to their feet who along with the Eagles fans packed the joint to bring an electric atmosphere.

Christian after holding SFC would put the game away as the offense was able to drive the field and put the finishing touches as Gonzalez hauled in a 9-yard pass from Easley.

On the day, Gonzalez finished with 49 yards on the ground, caught 5 passed for 68 yards and scored a couple of touchdowns which included the long kickoff return. Javier Jimenez would lead the Patriots in rushing as he accumulated 108 yards on 12 carries. Passing wise, Easley threw for 84 yards on 9 of 12 passing.

Leading the defense for the Patriots was defensive end Garrett Rosenthal who was all over the field as he tallied 12 tackles, recovered a fumble, had a couple pass deflections. The other fumble was recovered by Kyle Olsen.

With the win, the Patriots improve to 5-0 and continue their best season since 2016 when they started out 12-0. Next week the Patriots will have their homecoming against the Mira Mesa Marauders out at Granite Hills High School.
