SPRING JAMBOREE TOURNAMENT

CHRISTIAN 11, CALEXICO 10 (5 INNINGS)

In quite the dramatic fashion with the score tied at 10-10 with two outs, Kate Manes of the Patriots on a full count laced a ball to center to bring Audrey Shebloski home for the game-winning hit and run.

Out at Majestic Park in Las Vegas, Nevada over the spring break the Christian Patriots after a loss the other day looked to get back on the right track against another team from San Diego in the Calexico Bulldogs. Things didn’t start out on the right foot as the Bulldogs raced out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning.

Trailing in the bottom of the first inning the Patriots didn’t fret and went to business with one out as Cali Rookey (4-4, 4R, RBI) and Audrey Shebloski (4-4, 4R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR) hit back-to-back base hits. With runners on, Mallory Steele (3-4, R, 5 RBI, 2B, HR) on an 0-2 count connected and blasted a three-run jack over the left field fence to bring the score to 5-3.

The Patriots would push across another run in the inning with two outs thanks to Dawnelle Mcleod (2-3, R, RBI) who lined a single to center bringing home Kate Manes (2-3, R, RBI) to make it 5-4.

Calexico in the top of the second inning would answer right back with three more runs to push their lead to 8-4.

The deficit made no difference to the Patriots as Shebloski cut into it with a two-run blast scoring Rookey to pull within 8-6.

The Bulldogs behind a double and a single in the top of the third made it 10-6.

A lead single by Mcleod to right field started the bottom of the third inning for Christian, later on with two outs Rookey was able to extend the inning with a base hit to left field which also scored Rookey to make it 10-7, after a double by Shebloski to put runners on second and third Steele followed with a two-run double to make it 10-9.

Moving to the bottom of the fifth with one out Rookey started things off with a base hit, Shebloski followed with another base hit, a couple batters later with two outs Devyn Krystek (2-4) hit a ball to second that was misplayed that allowed Rookey to score to tie the game at 10-10 and set up the dramatic finish by Manes.

For the Bulldogs, Estefania Caballero took the loss going 5 innings while giving up 11 runs on 17 hits, she also walked 1 and struck out 1 on the day.

On the other side for the Patriots, Mane took the circle and picked up the victory going 5 innings while giving up 10 runs on 12 hits in which she walked 4 and struck out 3.
