LA MESA (3-11-20) – In quite the slugfest it would be a walk-off walk by Alyssa Bolden (1-4, 2 RBI) that would be the difference.

An RBI double by Alexis Williams (3-4, R, 2 RBI, 2B) scoring Katie Collier (3-4, R, 3 2B) gave El Capitan an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Grossmont answered right back in the bottom half as Kati Contreras (3-3, 2R, 4 RBI, 2B, HR) doubled in Natalie Emery (1-3, 3R) to tie the game 1-1.

The Foothillers later in the bottom of the third inning would take a 2-1 lead on a Bolden groundball that was misplayed allowing Contreras to come into score.

They would later extend their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run blast by Contreras that also scored Kimmy Bond.

El Capitan would finally cut into the deficit in the top of the sixth inning courtesy of Brooklyn Fukushima (2-4, 2 RBI, 2 2B) who ripped a double to center field bringing home both Hailey Mulligan (2R) and Katy Hicks (2R) to make it 4-3.

The momentum didn’t last for the Vaqueros as Grossmont fought back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 7-3 lead. A ground out by Contreras would score Emery, Katelynn Parent (2-4, R, 2 RBI, 2B) followed with a double bringing in Kimmy Bond (3-4, 3R, RBI) who would score when Issy Cervantes (1-3, RBI) singled with two outs.

With what looked like a nice lead heading into the seventh inning the Hillers looked to out things away.

However, the Vaqueros wouldn’t quit and started off with a single by Williams, a couple of batters later Olivia Martinez (2-3) singled advancing Williams to second base, Hannah Davis (1-3, R) reached on an error to load the bases.

Still, only one out and the bases full Brooke Horn (1-3, RBI) was able to draw a walk to bring home Williams to make it 7-4, Hicks came into run for Horn, up stepped Brandy Taylor (1-3, R, 4 RBI, HR) who on a 1-2 count blasted the next offering over the left-field fence for a grand slam which gave the Vaqueros the lead 8-7. They would tack on another run later with two-outs on a Williams base hit scoring Maddie Taylor (RUN) to make it 9-7.

After getting the first out in the bottom of the seventh the Vaqueros luck changed as Bond would knock in Jade Daley who walked, the momentum kept on coming for the Hillers Parent drove in Emery which tied the game 9-9 and eventually the final run would come in for the Hillers to pull out the crazy comeback.
