GOLD-SILVER SEMI-FINALS

SOUTHWEST EL CENTRO 6, SANTANA 3

All day the pitching of Southwest El Centro’s Sadriana Rodriguez limited the Sultans as she fanned 10 on the day in her seven innings of work.

The Eagles took advantage of consecutive walks and a base hit by Illiana Manzano in the bottom of the first inning, Sultans pitcher Joey Barkhimer who started uncorked a wild pitch allowing Arianna Izaguirre to score to make it 1-0, Alexandra Salcedo would add two more runs when she banged a double which scored both Rodriguez and Manzano. They would tack on a fourth run to lead 4-0 later in the inning.

The Santana Sultans (10-8) would get on the board when Barkhimer led off the top of the second inning with a solo home run to make it 4-1.

Another run for the Eagles (14-11) in the bottom of the third inning courtesy of Madeline Jungers who lined a single to center made it 5-1. They would add another run in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the lead to 6-1.

Santana thought they had some momentum in the top of the fifth when with one out Nicole Penton-March singled, she would advance to third when Brianna Jerig roped a double but neither would advance any further.

Penton-March would make things interesting for the Sultans in the top of the seventh inning when she blasted a 2-run jack over the left field fence to bring them within 6-3. Unfortunately, that would be the closest they would get as Rodriguez retired the final two batters.

For the Sultans in the loss, Barkhimer takes the loss as she went 1 inning in which she gave up 4 runs on 2 hits while walking 4 and striking out 1.
