CHRISTIAN 66, MOUNT CARMEL 46

It is a brand new era this season for the Christian Patriots Boys basketball program. This season the Patriots are coached by Davion Famber who is bringing a new attitude.

That new attitude and culture really shined on Wednesday night in the Horseman Tournament opener at West Hills as the Patriots handled their business in their victory over the Sundevils.

In the first quarter the Patriots put up 16 points of which NaShom Carter scored 6 of those behind a couple of three pointers. Christian in the second quarter was able to score 20 points.

The Patriots in the second half would score a combined 28 points in the third and fourth quarters.

Making the Patriots night a victorious one was the trio of Carter who led with 15 points including a couple of three pointers, Jackson Larsen poured in 14 points as did Daniel Welch. Other scorers included Jordan Gaines who scored 9 points and Domanic Safarta who canned 8 points with a couple of three pointers.

“We played hard and it was a total team effort tonight.” Said Patriots coach Famber.

The next game for Christian will be on Tuesday, December 5th as they take on San Ysidro in the Horseman tournament.

RAMONA 65, EL CAPITAN 53

The Vaqueros traveled up the road to Ramona to take on the Bulldogs in Santana Shootout tournament action and unfortunately came out on the short end.

Things didn’t start out good for the Vaqueros who couldn’t get anything to go down in the first quarter which led the Bulldogs to outscore them 18-6. However it was quite the different story in the second quarter for El Capitan as Jacob Pfitzner put on a show in nailing 5 three pointers for 15 points. Overall the Vaqueros scored 20 points in the second quarter to only trail 30-26 at the half.

Unfortunately the momentum wouldn’t last as the Vaqueros would only score 2 points in the third quarter as they would trail 44-28 heading into the fourth quarter. The Vaqueros tried to make it a contest in the fourth as Pfitzner nailed a couple more three pointers and Chase Lovato scored 7 points to help the Vaqueros put up 25 points but unfortunately the Bulldogs scored 21 points to round out their scoring.

On the night the Vaqueros shot 20 of 53 from the field pverall.

Leading the Bulldogs in scoring was a group of players who scored in double digits. Leading the way was Zach Balcone who scored 17 points, Andrew Cavaness who scored 16 points, Cameron Capito who scored 15 points and Jon Finch who drilled 14 points.

“Thought the kids came out and played hard tonight, our defense has to improve and it will as its early.” Said Vaqueros head coach Jeff Bickford when asked about the game.

El Capitan will next take on the Hoover Cardinals on Friday night in a Game on Challenge tournament contest to be played at Hoover at 7pm.

HELIX 43, EASTLAKE 40 – The Helix Highlanders traveled down to the South Bay for the Hilltop tournament. The Highlanders who this season are without last year’s sensation Miles Norris who transferred a few months ago took on the Titans of Eastlake who are always a perennial top team in the County.

However despite not having their top player from last season the Highlanders were able to hang on for the 43-40 victory. The duo of Seniors Amari Green and Jaylen Hinson led Helix with 18 points and 13 points respectively.

MOUNT MIGUEL 67, MADISON 54

The Matadors who are a favorite to win their side of the Grossmont League moved their record to 2-0 as they defeated the Warhawks at home in the Baron-Matador classic. The Warhawks jumped out to a 16-12 lead after the first period. However the offense really took charge in the second quarter as the Matadors scored 25 points behind Marquise Edwards and his 12 points in the quarter. At the half the Matadors led 37-29.

Both teams were pretty even in the second half as Mount Miguel outscored Madison in the third quarter 15-13 and in the fourth quarter 15-12.
