STEELE CANYON 28, BONITA VISTA 0

CHULA VISTA (9-13-19) – Whoever said that winning in a big stadium is tough never played for the Steele Canyon Cougars who won for the third time in as many years in a big stadium on Friday night.

The Cougars soundly defeated the home team Bonita Vista Barons out at Southwestern College as the defense limited the Barons to under 150 yards of total offense.

Offensively the Cougars roared right away as Antoine Walker who was wide open hauled in a 65-yard pass and catch from Jeremy Mendez-Gal to make it 7-0.

They would extend their lead in the second quarter when Wes Neely III scored the first of his two touchdowns from 14-yards to make it 14-0. Steele Canyon added a third score to lead 21-0 at halftime behind Junior Akintunde who wanted in on the fun. His score came via a 25-yard scamper through the Barons defense.

Neely would find his way into the end zone in the third quarter to make it 28-0 with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter.

The rest of the way the defense of the Cougars stepped up and would preserve the shutout after Chance Johnson made a play to keep Bonita off the board.

Colton Guerrero would lead all Cougar defenders with 5 tackles including 1 for a loss.

With the victory, the Cougars improve to 3-0 while the Barons fall to 2-2.

HILLTOP 27, VALHALLA 13

CHULA VISTA (9-13-19) – In a contest that many people were interested in as both the Hilltop Lancers and Valhalla Norsemen came into the contest undefeated.

The Visiting Norsemen were coming off of a bye week while the Hilltop Lancers defeated San Ysidro 43-3 last week.

Although fresh and ready to go the momentum carried the night for the Lancers as Javin Deanda threw a short screen pass to Marko Aki who zipped his way through the Norsemen defense for a 70-yard score to make it 7-0.

Shortly after the big guy of the Norsemen offense Keegan Baker took the handoff and jagged the Lancers for a 43-yard scamper to knot the game at 7-7.

Hilltop would eventually score again and take a 14-7 lead into intermission.

They would eventually extend their lead 21-7 in the third quarter when Abraham Avila scored from 33-yards out.

With the loss, the Norsemen fall to 2-1 while the Lancers remain undefeated and move to 4-0 for the first time since 2013 when they started 5-0 and finished the season 10-2.

They would go onto take a 14-0 lead when Matthew Sanford picked off a Jacob Laverdiere pass and Kian Hogan zipped his way through the Matadors defense for a 40-yard scamper score to put the Eagles up two scores after the first quarter.

Mount Miguel in the second quarter couldn’t put any points on the board and would trail 21-0 at the half.
