ROUNDUP: HILLERS TRIP UP PILOTS WHILE SPARTANS FEAST ON EASTERN TEAMS

GROSSMONT 7, OLP 3

Making up what was supposed to be played on Thursday but due to rain across the county, the Grossmont Foothillers (6-4) would have to wait until Saturday to claim a victory.

The Pilots (1-7) would strike first as Kyra Davis drove in a run to give them a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. However, Grossmont would strike back in their half of the first inning.

With one out Natalie Emery (2-3, 2R, 2B) laced a single to left field, she would steal second and advance on a ground ball out, with two outs Katalina Contreras (1-2, 3R, 2 RBI) lined a single to bring home Emery to tie the game and would come into score on a Jessica Medlin (2-2, R, RBI, 2 2B) double.

After three base hits and a fielders choice, the Pilots would tie the game and retake the lead 3-2 on a Solana Martinez base hit in the top of the second inning.

With the score in favor of the Pilots in the bottom of the third inning Contreras would knock in Kimmy Bond (1-4, R, 3B) on a fielders choice to tie the score at 3-3, Aly Allmann (1-3, 2 RBI) later knocked in Contreras to give Grossmont a 4-3 lead and Issy Cervantes (1-3, 2 RBI) extended the lead with a two-run base hit to make it 6-3.

Grossmont would push across their final run in the bottom of the fifth on an Allmann single to left to bring home Contreras.

Despite the Pilots getting a runner on in the seventh via an error the Hillers behind Samaria Roope would finish off the contest on a pop up for the final out.

For the Hillers, Emery started the contest going 3 innings in which she gave up 3 runs while walking 1, she wouldn’t factor in the decision as Roope came in and went 4 innings of relief and picked up the victory. In those 4 innings, she struck out 4 and only gave up a single base hit.

 

NON-LEAGUE

CENTRAL 15, VALHALLA 5

Big 11 run fifth inning for the Central Spartans propels them to the big morning road victory on Saturday morning.

The Norsemen after getting out of a jam in the top of the first inning went to work right away starting with a lead walk by Jade Hill followed by a double by Delaney Stettler (2-4, R, 2B), Maryn Jordan (2-3, 2R, 2 RBI, 2 2B) followed with a double that scored both Hill and Stettler to make it 2-0. A couple of batters later Yanely Gonzalez (1-2, RBI, 2B) banged another double to score Jordan to give Valhalla a 3-0 lead.

Central would cut into Valhalla’s lead as they took advantage of a miscue to make it 3-1.

Another miscue by Valhalla would allow Central to pull within 3-2 in the top of the third inning.

With the score in the bottom of the third inning still 3-2 the Norsemen took back some momentum as Jordan again doubled, she would come into score on a wild pitch to give them a 4-2 lead.

Central in the top of the fifth inning took back momentum as Aliah Cardenas (1-4, 2R, RBI) led off reaching on an error, Amanda Alcala (2-5, 2R, 4 RBI, 2B, HR) followed with a 2-run blast to tie the score at 4-4 and Karmina Becerra (2-4, 3R, 4 RBI, 2 HR) followed with a solo-jack to make it 5-4.

The Spartans took that momentum and opened the flood gates scoring wise including another dinger by Becerra. Her second homerun of the inning was a 3 run blast to give Central a 13-4 lead.

Contributing to the big 11 run inning for the Spartans, Alcala would knock in a couple more runs as she doubled.

Valhalla would push across one more run in the bottom of the fifth on a Bailey Munch base hit to bring home Kelly Olson (1-3, R).

 

VALHALLA 6, SAN DIEGO 3

Rebounding from the loss in the early game the Valhalla Norsemen behind Maryn Jordan’s 4 RBI are able to double up the San Diego Cavers.

An RBI single by Kelly Olson to score Delaney Stettler who tripled gave Valhalla an early 1-0 lead.

Valhalla was able to extend their lead in the top of the third inning when Maryn Jordan crushed a 2-run homer over the right field fence to bring home Jade Hill to make it 3-0.

San Diego would get on the board in the bottom of the third inning as Elena Robledo knocked in Shemia Clady to make it 3-1.

Another couple runs came the Norsemen’s way via Jordan and her bat as she singled to right to bring home Jade Hill and advance Stettler to second base, a couple of batters later Aubrey Baker knocked in the fifth run when she singled to score Stettler.

Valhalla scored their sixth and final run in the top of the sixth courtesy of Jordan launching a leadoff home run over the right field fence to make it 6-1.

The Cavers, however, cut the Valhalla lead in half as they scored two runs on a Valhalla error in the bottom of the seventh inning. Trailing 6-3 it looked like the Cavers had some momentum but the Norsemen were able to get out of it and end the game.

CENTRAL 8, SANTANA 5

After beating the Valhalla Norsemen the Central Spartans traveled over to Santee for an afternoon game against the Santana Sultans and used a big first couple of innings to come away with the victory.

The Spartans took advantage early and tagged Sultans starter Madison Mendez (2-3, R) for five runs in the top of the first inning which started with a lead single by Jessica Acosta (1-4, R). After a Sultans error allowed the next batter to reach Janyssa Martin (2-4, 2R, 3B) singled to load the bases.

With one out Amanda Alcala (3-4, R, 5 RBI, 2B, HR) came to the plate and took a 1-2 count and crushed it over the center field fence for a grand slam to give the Spartans a 4-0 lead. They would tack on another run as Clarissa Gonzales (1-2, RBI, 2B) doubled in Kamryna Beccera (2-3, 2R, 2 RBI, 2B) to make it 5-0.

Central added another run in the top of the second inning with one out when Martin roped a triple and scored on a double by Alcala to give them a 6-0 lead which was followed by an RBI double by Beccera to make it 7-0.

Santana who had been stifled so far finally got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Lakaila Aquiningoc-David drove in Madison Mendez to make it 7-1.

A solo homer by Beccera in the top of the fifth made it 8-1 Spartans.

The Sultans picked up a little momentum in the bottom of the fifth when with one out Mendez and Krysten Service singled back-to-back but Central would get out of the jam.

Santana in the bottom of the sixth inning pushed across another run to make it 8-2 on a Shelby Holmquist RBI double.

With the momentum picked up in the sixth inning the Sultans in the bottom of the seventh were down to their final at-bat. Leadoff hitter Service doubled which was followed by a walk by Nicole Penton March. A couple of batters later with one out Joey Barkhimer came up and jacked a three-run homer to pull within 8-5. But that is as close as the score would get as Central was able to get out of the inning.

Taking the loss for the Sultans was Mendez who only lasted 1 2/3 innings giving up 7 runs on 7 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1.

For the Spartans, Martin tossed all 7 innings in which she gave up 5 runs on 11 hits while walking 5 and striking out 6 in the victory.
