GROSSMONT 7. OTAY RANCH 2

With the game tied in the bottom of the fourth, the Grossmont Foothillers pushed across 2 runs and never looked back to pull away for the victory on Monday afternoon in La Mesa.

Things, however, didn’t start out so well for the Foothillers as Otay Ranch in the top of the first behind a two-run single by Devin Bailey gave the Mustangs an early 2-0 lead.

Moving to the bottom of the second inning the Foothillers got the bats rolling as Kimmy Bond led off with a double and later scored when Hallee Sweiss (1-2, 2R, RBI) lined a single which made it 2-1, Aly Allmann (2-3, R, RBI) drove in Sweiss to tie the game at 2-2.

Later on as both teams matched each other Grossmont broke the tie when Natalie Emery (1-2, RBI) singled to bring home Issy Cervantes (1-2, R), they would add another run when Sweiss scored on a sacrifice fly by Samaria Roope.

More of the same for Grossmont in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kati Contreras (2-4, R, RBI) drove in Allmann, a couple of batters later Rainee Foster (1-3, RBI) drove in Jessica Medlin (RUN) to round out the scoring.

Despite giving up a walk and allowing another runner to reach on an error Roope retired the next two Mustangs to finish out the game.

Roope picked up the win as she tossed 7 innings in which she struck out 7 while walking 6 and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits.
