Roundup: TWO HOME RUNS POWER HENRY PATRIOTS AS THE OFFENSE ROLLS

CITY WESTERN LEAGUE

PATRICK HENRY 9, CLAIREMONT 1

After the first inning, it was a smooth victory for the Patrick Henry Patriots (15-5 Overall, 4-2 CW) as they blew by the Clairemont Chieftains (8-12 Overall, 2-3 CW) on Thursday afternoon.

Early on the Patriots got rolling as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Lauren Nett (2-4, R, 4 RBI, 2B, HR) doubled in both Kaiah Altmeyer (2-3, 2R, SB) and Jessica Dewitt (1-3, 3R).

Clairemont was able to get on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Elyssa Garcia (3-4, R) scored on a passed ball to pull within 2-1.

Moving to the top of the fifth inning and still clinging to the one-run lead the Patriots broke the game open as they pushed across three runs to stretch their lead to 5-1.

With one out, Altmeyer blasted a double, she proceeded to steal third base and scored when Dewitt reached on an error and advanced to second on the same error, Lauren Nett followed with a two-run home run.

Patrick Henry later in the top of the seventh inning added four more runs when Dezianna Patmon (1-3, R, 4 RBI, HR) blasted a grand slam that scored Dewitt, Olivia Gigante (RUN), and Edie Guthrie (1-4, R).

Finishing things off in the bottom of the seventh inning for Patrick Henry, Laila Spracklen who came into the game and despite walking and giving up a single retired the final batter to end the game.

In the loss for the Chieftains, Samantha Jameson tossed 3.1 innings in which she gave up 6 runs on 4 hits while walking 5 and striking out 1, Jenee Brodeur came into relieve Jameson and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits in her 3.2 innings of work and she walked 1 and struck out 3.

Gigante got the start for the Patriots and garnered the victory as she gave up 0 runs on 1 hit in her 2 innings of work of which she walked 1 and struck out 1, H Jenks came in and relieved Gigante and worked 4 innings in which she gave up the 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 5, Spracklen finished things up with her 1 inning in which she gave up 0 runs on 1 hit while walking 1 and striking out 1.

 

 

NON-LEAGUE

SANTANA 7, CHRISTIAN 1

With the score tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, the Santana Sultans (11-9) took command and went from there to pick up the victory over the visiting Christian Patriots on Thursday afternoon.

Santana would strike first in the bottom of the second inning when Marilyn Downing reached on an error to score Hailey Justice. They would add another run to take a 2-0 lead.

Christian (4-18) in the bottom of the second inning would pull within 2-1 when with two outs Audrey Shebloski jacked a solo home run over the left field fence.

Now only leading by a run in the bottom of the third inning the Sultans would push across insurance runs starting with a leadoff double by Madison Mendez, she would later come into score when Natalie Simms singled to make it 3-1.

A couple of innings later in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Sultans would take a 6-1 lead when Joey Barkhimer hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Nicole Penton March.

They would round out their scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning when Brianna Jerig singled in Hailey Oceguera.

Barkhimer in the circle for the Sultans limited the Patriots on the day to only 3 hits in her 6 innings of work to pick up the victory. She also only walked 4 batters and struck out 13 on the day.

In the loss for the Patriots, Mallory Steele went 6 innings in which she gave up 7 runs on 8 hits in which she walked 2 and struck out 1.
