EL CAJON (12-11-19) – For the second straight season the Santana Sultans (2-3) come out on the victorious side of things against fellow Grossmont Foe Granite Hills in a non-league matchup.
Last season the Sultans defeated the Eagles 3-0 for their first win against Granite Hills in quite some time.

This time around the Sultans were able to take advantage when Senior Lane Dukes punched one in to give them a 1-0 lead in the first half. That would be all Santana would need as their defense did the rest and kept the Eagles at bay.

The game itself was quite physical as both teams were called for a combined eighteen fouls but this didn’t deter them from any type of offensive output.
Santana would add another goal courtesy once again from Dukes who punched in his third and fourth goals of the season and Granite Hills would also find the back of the net on a penalty kick.
Both Junior Davin Burroughs and Sophomore Chris Juarez collected their first assists of the season on the goals by Dukes

Lane Dukes for his efforts with the two goals was named player of the game by Coach Phillips.
In the end Sophomore Andrew Peterson made seven saves to procure the victory for Santana.
Next up for the Sultans is a opening round matchup with La Costa Canyon who is currently ranked third in San Diego County in the Grossmont Tournament Premier Division and are currently 0-1-1 coming off a 2-1 loss to Del Norte.
