EL CAJON CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT 12-20-18

SANTANA 21, HIGH TECH HIGH CHULA VISTA 13

Quite the difference between the previous night when the Santana Sultans (2-8) rolled from the beginning to the end in that they had to rally and hold on to the beat the Bruins.

High Tech High Chula Vista (7-1) came into the contest unbeaten and one of the top contenders in Division IV but the Sultans were able to hold the Bruins to 2 points in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.

Leading the way for the Sultans was Bella Terry who recorded a double-double of 13 points while hauling down 15 boards.

Both teams struggled as the Sultans led by a score of 5-4 after the first quarter and would actually trail 7-5 at the half after being shutout in the second quarter.

Santana in the second half picked things up as they were able to take a 12-11 lead after three quarters as Terry scored all 7 of the points as the Sultans outscored the Bruins 7-4.

Besides Terry scoring for the Sultans Aaliyah Stone scored 4 points and also grabbed 8 boards.

To paraphrase quote the great Lou Brown the fictional manager of the Cleveland Indians in the film Major League II “It’s what we call a winning streak.” Indeed it is as the Sultans have won two in a row and look to continue their winning ways against O’Farrell Charter on Friday night in the El Cajon Valley Christmas Tournament at 7 PM.
