SANTANA SULTANS PREVIEW VIDEO

The Sultans in 2018 will look to improve as they finished 4-8 overall and 1-3 in Grossmont Valley League play.

This season the Sultans move back down to Division IV from Division III where they lost a first-round playoff contest. They are considered one of the top contenders for the Division IV CIF Crown.

Santana graduated a lot of players off last seasons squad including two-year starting quarterback Josh Oedewaldt. However, this season sees Junior Nathan Temple take the reigns. Temple who appeared in a couple of games last season in backup duty has quite the arm and also mobility to move around in the pocket. These are going to be key for him and also for the Sultans if they are to success on offense.

Defensively the Sultans led by Junior Cameron Lariccia who has made quite a few lists on social media put out by various media outlets naming him a preseason All-East County candidate among other things. The preseason All-East County candidate will be one of the driving forces on the Sultans defense. Also, Colton Snipes who last season blocked four kicks in a game will be a contributing force not only on special teams but also as a wideout.

Coach Tim Estes who is entering his 7th season at the helm of the Sultans is pretty optimistic this year as he talks about this year’s squad in the preview.
